Dr Simon Bradshaw has been a researcher, communicator and advocate for climate action for more than two decades. He brings extensive knowledge of physical climate science, extreme weather, international action and negotiations, adaptation strategies, and climate finance. His work has taken him to the Torres Strait Islands, India, Tibet, southeast Asia, throughout the Pacific, and to many rounds of international climate negotiations.
As Research Director (Adaptation and Resilience) with Climate-KIC Australia, Simon oversees large, leading-edge research projects aimed at building the resilience of Australian communities and industries to fires, floods, extreme heat, sea level rise and other impacts of climate change. Climate-KIC Australia is based within the University of Technology Sydney’s Institute for Sustainable Futures.
Prior to this, as the former Research Director at Climate Council, Simon’s work spanned many areas of climate science, impacts and solutions, with a particular focus on communicating the links between climate change and extreme weather. He led projects on climate change and mental health, climate change and our oceans, bushfires, emissions reduction targets, tipping points, and Australia’s international climate obligations. Prior to working with the Climate Council, Simon spent seven years with Oxfam Australia, focussed on supporting climate change adaptation in the Pacific.
