Cleaning up industry
How we make things matters. Australian industry is already cutting climate pollution by making the switch to cheaper, cleaner energy and embracing new opportunities in green manufacturing.
But we can do more to cut climate pollution in industry this decade, to build a safer future for our kids, and set Australia up for our next era of prosperity.
Our Seize the Decade report shows that we can cut climate pollution by 75% this decade. To get there, we need to accelerate Australia’s shift to clean energy and industry, stop approving new coal and gas projects that will cause more climate harm, and phase out fossil fuel exports as quickly as possible by ramping up clean alternatives that create good Aussie jobs.
The world is undergoing a new Industrial Revolution.
the solution
Renewable energy from our abundant sun and wind is the cheapest, cleanest type of power and Aussie industry can seize the benefits in lower bills and new pollution-free products.
Our work is all about getting the right policies, action and investment in place to rapidly scale up new industries like green metals, critical minerals and clean manufacturing, and accelerate the phase out of coal and gas which cause climate pollution.
We’ve already clocked up some big wins:
- Climate Council helped deliver real improvements to the national Safeguard mechanism which is forcing big polluters to slash their emissions.
- We’ve campaigned on the huge opportunities of clean manufacturing, helping catalyse billions of dollars of investment in the Future Made in Australia agenda.
There’s so much more to do to slash pollution from Aussie industry. That’s why we’re:
- Fighting to fix Australia’s national environment law so it says a clear yes to responsibly-delivered clean energy and industry projects, and a strong no to polluting fossil fuel projects that cause more climate harm.
- Helping governments and businesses alike understand how to cut energy bills and climate pollution in one go by electrifying industry, with technologies and tools that are ready to go today.
- Stopping new coal and gas projects right around the country, because a safer future for our kids means keeping fossil fuels in the ground.

Our environment law is broken, because it ignores the impact of climate pollution.
Help lobby the federal government to fix this by delivering new laws that respond to nature’s biggest threat: climate change.

Australia doesn’t need any new coal or gas. The International Energy Agency laid out our energy options and all of them point directly to building out clean sources of energy like solar and wind, which Australia has in abundance. Rapidly cutting climate pollution from polluting coal and gas is imperative so Australia keeps up with the global trend.
