Dr Scott Heron

Dr Scott Heron is a specialist in the fields of coastal and near-shore environmental physics, based at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, James Cook University. His research primarily investigates impacts on coral reefs, including coral bleaching and disease, reef resilience and conservation management, including the effects of climate change. 

Scott is a co-lead developer of the Climate Vulnerability Index, a tool to assess the climate change risks to World Heritage and other protected areas, as well as their associated communities.

He was named on the Reuters Hot List 2021 of the world’s top climate scientists, within which Scott recognises the many excellent collaborators with whom he has worked.
