Clean electricity in our main grid

The share of renewables in our main grid – the National Electricity Market, which covers NSW, Vic, QLD, SA, the ACT and Tas – is growing rapidly. In the last three months of 2025, renewables provided more than half of the power in our main grid for the first time, cutting wholesale power prices almost in half. Overall throughout the year, around 45% of our power now comes from renewables and storage.

In the coming years, we can shift almost entirely away from polluting electricity sources. To do this we need to continue putting solar on more rooftops, building more large-scale renewable and storage capacity, and further bolster our grid to support emerging clean export industries.Find out how your state or territory stacks up in Race to the top: Australia’s clean energy momentum
