Australia’s climate pollution

Australia’s climate targets are:

  • 43% below 2005 levels by 2030
  • 67-72% below 2005 levels by 2035
  • Net zero by 2050.

We are making some progress: 2024-25 saw Australia’s biggest annual drop in climate pollution outside COVID, driven by a surge in renewable energy. In total, our emissions have dropped 27.4% below 2005 levels, and we are expected to cut climate pollution by 42% by 2030 based on current policies.

However, this falls short of what’s needed to protect Australians and our way of life. To keep Australians safer, we must urgently put in place the policies to deliver and power past our targets. Solutions are available now across our electricity sector, transport, homes, businesses, industries and landscapes.
