Dr Veronika Emetc

Fellow

Veronika is a climate risk professional with 12+ years’ experience working across the academia, government, and industry.

In her role at KPMG as an Associate Director, she worked with organisations across multiple industry sectors to help them evaluate their climate risks – from direct physical risks related to extreme weather events and disruption of supply chains to risks and opportunities associated with the transition to net zero.

She has deep expertise in building informative climate scenarios that help organisations in decision making, drawing on experience in climate hazard modelling, carbon price modelling, and financial impact modelling. Her focus is on ensuring the correct interpretation of scientific data and information critical for establishing a strong evidence base for climate risk evaluation.

Before KPMG, Veronika worked at Transport for NSW, where she was the lead author of their climate risk assessment guide and the climate risk model that’s been widely used across multiple infrastructure projects. Her work also focused on developing various Electric Vehicle uptake models for Transport for NSW to support policy and decision making.

She holds a PhD in Earth Science from the Australian National University, where her research focused on modelling of Antarctic ice sheet in a warming climate. She also holds a Master’s in Climate, Polar and Marine Science (a joint degree from the University of Hamburg and St. Petersburg State University), specialising in paleo-climates. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Advanced Mathematics from Novosibirsk State University, where she focused on modelling ocean currents.

Veronika is passionate about evidence-based decision making and supporting climate resilience through appropriate use of data, modelling, and science communication.
