The Climate Council welcomes the opportunity to make a submission to this inquiry. Our
submission mostly relates to terms of reference 1a, 1b and 2b, 2g, 2h. In line with terms of
reference 2, we’ve also made some general recommendations with the aim of reducing the
impact of disasters and protecting lives and livelihoods in the future.

This submission recommends:

1. Reduce the risk
2. Prioritize Investment in resilience
3. Account for climate risks in land use planning
4. Improve building standards and compliance
5. Support communities to build back better
