In April, the Climate Council’s research team hosted a Research Lightning Talk for the Climate Council Champions.

Dr Martin Rice led the discussion with an overview of Australia’s Crisis Summer of 2019-2020, characterised by catastrophic bushfires and the latest news of mass bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef.

As we currently experience an economic downturn due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Senior Climate Solutions Researcher Tim Baxter stepped us through previous scenarios where economic crises have led to a decrease in emissions and the sharp increases or revenge pollution on the other side.

Climate Solutions Researcher, Ella Weisbrot, gave us a sneak peek into the Climate Council’s developing project, the Australian Economic Reboot. This project will analyse the opportunity for clean energy jobs and investment to lead the COVID-19 economic recovery and pivot our economy on the path to net-zero emissions.
