The Climate Council would like to congratulate Board Member Rob Purves AM, for recently receiving the Australian Geographic Lifetime of Conservation Award. Rob has been instrumental in supporting the Climate Council, as well as a number of other environmental organisations.

Rob is a dedicated environmentalist, is currently the President of WWF Australia and is a former board member of WWF International (the world’s largest science based conservation organisation). Rob is also a founding member of The Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists, a Director of Earth Hour Global, a Patron of the Lizard Island Research Station, and a Governor of Australian Youth Climate Coalition. In 2008 Rob was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for service to conservation and the environment, and awarded an Honorary Fellow from the University of Sydney.

In 2004 Rob established the Purves Environmental Fund, whose core objectives are to support advocacy and education on climate change and landscape management, and to improve environmental policy through the use of science, as well as to strengthen targeted NGO’s through capacity building.

Rob’s support has been vital to the Climate Council, and he has been right behind us since day one. We’d like to thank Rob for his tremendous support, and congratulate him for achieving this highly esteemed award.

Congratulations from the Climate Council Team!
