THE Climate Council has welcomed news the government has withdrawn funding for Bjorn Lomborg’s Australian Consensus Centre.

In response to overwhelming community pressure, Education Minister Simon Birmingham today announced the government had withdrawn $4m of federal funding for the centre.

Climate Council CEO Amanda McKenzie said the move was a win for science and people power.

“The Australian public has whole-heartedly rejected the idea of giving Bjorn Lomborg a taxpayer-funded megaphone to spread misinformation on climate change, particularly in the wake of deep cuts to some of our most respected scientific organisations,” she said.

“Australians are very concerned about climate change and they want to see world-class research that scientifically assesses both the impacts and solutions to global warming.

“We have world-class researchers who deserve these funds much more than a misinformation merchant like Bjorn Lomborg, who is destined for irrelevance as the world accelerates action on climate change.

The Climate Council is an independent, crowd-funded organization providing quality information to climate change to the Australian public.
