Professor Michael Raupach, the Executive Director of the ANU Climate Change Institute, passed away Tuesday morning, 10 February, after a short illness.

Mike is best known internationally for his leadership of the Global Carbon Project, which has made outstanding contributions to our understanding of the carbon cycle and how humans are modifying it. He also made significant contributions to the science of land-atmosphere interactions and, more broadly, to coupling socio-economic dynamics into Earth System models. Mike was also a member of the Climate Council.

His scientific research was rigorous and insightful, and he always showed respect and humility in interacting with colleagues, the policy world and the public. Most of all, he was a wonderful human being and will be sorely missed by the climate change research community and by all those who knew him and worked with him.
